Q: Your music often bridges elements from various genres, especially combining electronic beats with rock and metal. What initially drew you to merge these particular styles, and how do you navigate the challenges of blending such distinct sounds?
A: "I grew up on all things rock and metal so when I started producing in 2012, there was always a part of me that wanted to bring my influence into my writing. It wasn't until about 2016 though when my career and producing abilities were much higher that I took that leap into the combination. It was a HUGEEEE learning experience and a pretty sharp learning curve introducing live elements into electronic from the mindset of a producer vs a guitar player or from a band. It's been one of my greatest tests though throughout the years learning how it can all mix together, but also has made me a much better songwriter working with some of my favorite bands throughout the years."
Q: You’ve been known for your dynamic and high-energy live performances. How do you prepare for a show, and what do you hope your audience takes away from a Kayzo concert?
A: "Nowadays the prep for big shows and festivals usually come weeks in advance so by the time it's time to hit the road, I'm completely ready to go barring last minute changes to sets by either me making new music on the road or new edits. By giving myself time to prep, I've found that when it's show day I can really relax and turn my mind off which for me always gives me a better performance. This always gives me more energy too which will lead to my high energy sets. When I'm confident up there I think a crowd can feel that and connect much more quickly which always leads to an epic show."
Q: Collaboration has been a key element in your career, working with artists from different musical backgrounds. Can you talk about a collaboration that was particularly meaningful or transformative for you?
A: "I've been really fortunate to have collaborated with some of my dream bands and artists thus far which I couldn't be more grateful for really. I'd say one of my more memorable collab moments has been with bands like Bad Omens or Atreyu. The reason being is that those sessions had started with me bringing a rough idea to the table, but then the band and I stripping the parts down to its bones and re-writing from the band's perspective. I would have a riff written or some drums laid out and then we would go back and track with the band's guitar or the full live drum kit and it really taught me how to write from a band's mindset with multiple members input creatively VS just me alone calling all the shots."
Q: The electronic music scene is constantly evolving. What trends or changes in the industry excite you the most, and how do you see them influencing your future work?
A: "I think what I've started to really take notice of over the last year or so is that a lot of influences from where electronic music as a whole 10 years ago is coming back full circle but in a more current way. For me getting into the scene as a fan in 2010, and more seriously as a producer in 2012, it's really cool to have the sounds of my start come back."
Q: With your experience and success in the industry, what advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers who look up to your work and want to carve out their own path in music?
A: "This question is so vast that I could sit and write forever, but I'll keep it short and sweet, because it really is true. Break the rules. Whatever 'rules' you think you need to fall under to be 'successful,' they don't exist. By breaking those rules and being your most authentic self, you are far more likely to attract an audience that will rock with you and support your creative endeavors. Lastly, always be willing to learn. Music, especially producing, will forever change and evolve with how technology is so fast evolving. I find myself every day learning a new trick or technique. It has kept me fresh and excited to hit the studio every day."
